I believe Gershwin’s Magic Key is essential to furthering the incomparable impact of the Gershwin legacy to a new generation. The original Beethoven Lives Upstairs recording effectively introduced an entire generation to Beethoven. Furthermore, the live performances have continued to introduce subsequent generations to Beethoven. I have seen Gershwin’s Magic Key live and it is an incredible production that is essential to introducing young people to Gershwin’s amazing music. In my opinion, it is extremely important for every person to hear Gershwin’s music and learn his life story. His life and music are a testament to the indomitable American spirit. I was impressed how Paul and his team were able to weave Gershwin’s life story with his music in a very engaging and meaningful manner. Not only do children and their parents hear his music and learn about his life, they also are able to gain a broader understanding of that era.
The show is also enriching for adults and I believe many will find a new level of appreciation for George Gershwin. Therefore, it is imperative that Gershwin’s Magic Key reach as wide an audience as possible for an immediate and far reaching impact essential to preserving and advancing Gershwin’s legacy for adults as well as children. As a result, a whole new generation and their parents will fall in love with Gershwin.
